How To Replace The iPhone 6's Battery
Step 1. Get these tools and parts – iPhone 6 battery andiPhone Repair Kit.The battery and tools are the only items you’ll likely need to buy.
Step 2. Locate the two small 5-point screws either side of the Lightning port
These are the only screws you need to remove to open up the iPhone 6.
Step 3. Switch off phone and unscrew these with the provided iPhone 5-point pentalobe screwdriver
The pentalope screwdriver head is tiny but it does fit the small screws at the base of the iPhone 6.
Step 4. Use the sucker to pull out the screen above the Home Button
Place the sucker just above the home button and pull, holding the case in your hand. You just need to pry open the screen enough to get a plastic pick inside.
Step 5. Use included plastic pick to pry open the screen
Work your way round the screen from the home button upwards.
Step 6. Lift screen section up to 90 degrees but no further
The screen is attached at the top so don’t pull it too hard. You can lift it up to 90 degrees as shown.
Step 7. Locate and remove the screen mount screws
Detaching the screen is a good idea when removing the battery as it’s held in using glue and can be fiddly to work loose. Remove the screws located in the mounting plate and then remove it too.
Step 8. Unpick screen connectors
There are several connectors holding the screen in place. Use a pick or thin nail file to life them out of the ports.
Step 9. Remove battery connector cover
Two screws hold the battery connector cover in place. Remove these then remove the metal cover too.
Step 10. Unpick battery connector
The battery is connected to the circuitry using just one connector so use a plastic pick to disconnect it.
Step 11. Use hair dryer to warm rear casing to loosen battery glue
The iPhone 6 battery is held in place using a lot of glue and this needs to be softened up to work it loose. Use a hair dryer on the back of the case to warm the glue. Don’t use anything hotter and only warm it enough so that you can still hold the phone comfortably.
Step 12. Pry off battery by gradually using credit card or plastic pic
Use a credit card or thin pick or file to work around the lower end of the battery. Avoid the top section near the screen connectors as there are underlying connectors here. Also avoid using components for leverage. Try to keep the glue attached to the case so you can re-use it later.
Step 13. Connect new battery and fold down connector
If you weren’t able to save much glue, use thin double-sided tape to secure the new battery. The connectors need only a little force to slot into place but can be a little fiddly to take your time to line them up. The original battery connector comes folded down so you need to do the same here. Use a pick or thin metal file to push it down as shown
Step 14. Reconnect the screen connectors and attach battery and screen metal covers
Attach the screen connectors in the reverse order, starting with the one at the very top of the case first then reattach the metal plate cover.
Step 15. Close case and install screws
Place the screen back onto the case – you need to lower it a few millimeters then slot it up into the top of the case first but be careful not to stretch the screen protectors. Go ahead and reinstall the small screws either side of the lightning port.
You’re done!
